We
made the most of the lovely weather at the weekend and enjoyed
a coffee and a cake at Bridlington Spa again. This
time I did take the camera! Looking out over the water sparkling
in the sunshine was very relaxing and it was good to see so many
families playing on the beach. The harbour top was practically
bustling and there were plenty of pleasure boat trips heading
out. I think we've all been waiting for the sun to come out after
such a wet winter and we certainly weren't disappointed today.
As encouraging
as it was to see the town waking up it was good to get back to
the peace and quiet of Boynton and just enjoy the garden whilst
the sun was shining.
Our Easter
guests got some good walking days in, enjoying the cliff tops
especially and I'm delighted that they've decided to return to
No 8 in August for their summer hols. It's really good to know
that we must be doing something right and that there's plenty
to do here on the coast to tempt a return visit. We look forward
to welcoming them back.
In fact, we
look forward to welcoming all guests in 2013. I'm pleased that
enquiries are starting to be made for the coming months so if
you're thinking of a visit please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Let's hope
we've got a really great summer ahead of us!

There
seems to be quite a bit of interest in our East Yorkshire Wolds
at the moment.
We were lucky
enough to visit the artist David Hockney's current exhibition
at the Royal Academy in London recently. It was quite exciting
to see images of our area displayed in such a prestigious setting.
I couldn't help overhearing people enthusing about the exhibition
and I wondered if they'd ever consider visiting the area Hockney
took his inspiration from? A pleasant 10-15 minute walk out of
the village brings you to Woldgate Woods, the central focus for
his 'A Bigger Picture' exhibition. I had a walk up there the other
day, it was a bit misty, but I could see why the Yorkshire Wolds
landscape captivates Hockney, whatever the weather. What do you
think of my photographic attempt of Fond Brig on Woldgate? Perhaps
I should leave it to the expert! The Hockney Trail is a pleasant
walk or cycle ride and I can easily provide directions for you.
I wish I'd
had the camera when we went to the Spa the other afternoon to
book some tickets for a show. We enjoyed a drink in the cafe/bar
and looked out on a perfect view; the sweeping wide beach full
of families enjoying a walk and the sky a spectacular lilac/pink
as the sun was going down.
Naturally
we've been concentrating on No 8 too and we've made some improvements
over winter to ensure the continued comfort for our future guests.
The tester bed has a new mattress and there's some additional
storage in the bathroom. The living room and kitchen TVs have
been upgraded to provide Freeview. And of course there's always
some paint work to freshen up!
We look forward
to welcoming new and returning guests alike in 2012.

Another
year here already and we?re really looking forward to the coming
season. We?ve had an early spring clean to make sure No 8 is in
tip top condition for our guests this year. Hopefully the flower
beds will have survived the winter ? an incredible -14° was
recorded in the village just before Christmas! The snowdrops have
emerged though and the daffs and bluebells are peeping through,
so fingers crossed.
A great find
was this postcard/photo of No 8 spotted by eagle-eyed friends
in the village, on ebay of all places. It was described as circa
1950s but Dad, Boynton born and bred, thinks it?s much earlier
(and he?d know!). One thing is for sure, No 8 is certainly recognisable
today from that old photo so it?s good to know our renovations
have been sympathetic.
It seems that
puffin watching at the Bempton RSPB reserve is going to be a popular
attraction this summer as we?ve already had a couple of confirmed
bookings for July. Let's hope we have great weather to enjoy the
nearby coast line and beaches.
Last year
our guests came from as far afield as Australia and Canada, and
I?m delighted to report that they enjoyed their stay at No 8 and
exploring our part of East Yorkshire, perhaps we?ll see you too?

It’s
official, Spring has sprung and the clocks have changed –
summer is on its way!
The lawn has
been cut for the first time this year and whilst the snowdrops
have finished, the daffodils are coming into bloom. It’ll
soon be time for the garden furniture to come out of winter hibernation.
Our Christmas
guests enjoyed a truly white Christmas but that seems so long
ago now and it’s time to look forward to the coming season.
It’s going to be good to see guests enjoying the garden
and BBQ-ing once more.
Having a look
on the internet, there’s some great events lined up for
this summer with something for all the family, not forgetting
peaceful relaxation for those needing to get away from it all.
Perhaps you’ll
spend some of your time in this diverse part of the country?
Hope to see
you soon.

Well,
here we are at the end of the summer.
The leaves
seemed to fall so fast it was a job keeping on top of them. The
autumn colours are beautiful though, especially against the pink
sunsets we’ve enjoyed of late.
Sadly the
garden furniture and BBQ have been stored away for another year
but it was great to see so many of you enjoying a BBQ on the lawn
when the weather permitted!
We’ve
had a few log fires in the living room now and it makes it cosy
and snug. Christmas and the New Year will soon be upon us and
already I’m thinking about when to collect and trim the
tree for the dining room.
It’s
been a great summer, even better when the sun shone, and we’ve
met some lovely people in our guests. We’ve enjoyed having
you as much as you tell us you’ve enjoyed staying.
We look forward
to welcoming our future guests, old and new, to No 8 in 2010 and
may I wish you all a happy Christmas and New Year.

The
first Bank Holiday in May saw the traditional Duck Race in Boynton
draw a healthy crowd - probably due in no small part to the beautiful
spring weather we were blessed with!
And so Boynton
went 'quackers' (groan!) with hundreds of plastic yellow ducks
being tipped into the water on Sunday afternoon.
They went
under starter's orders at the Stick Bridge and wound their way
downstream, over a waterfall, past Boynton Hall and - for those
that weren't by then snagged on the riverbank - on to the finish
line.
It makes for
a great spectacle and is a wonderful community event with villagers
and visitors alike enjoying refreshments afterwards at the village
hall.
